Do pictures have a temperature? Do they make you hot or cold?

Woman and child in art gallery edit

The woman leads a small group of children in to the art gallery, "Do pictures have a temperature? Do they make you hot or cold?"

"No!" the children respond in unison then slowly scatter to the corners of the room and bench before a wall of framed and matted photographs.

Patiently the woman waits a moment, ensuring the children stay in the room She then instructs the children to pick a picture that they would like to jump into. A moment later a boy points decisively, "that one."

It is a photograph of an old phone booth on empty road in Buena Vista, Colorado by Henry Wessel.

The woman asks, "Why that one?"

"Because it is lonely. There are no people in it. I want to be the people."
